A Brief History of the Lucas Farms Neighborhood: Governors, Moffits, and More!

Details

Wednesday, May 23, 2018 -
7:00pm to 8:00pm
Meeting Room A

Come hear the 175 year old story of this modest neighborhood with a rich history! Lucas Farms Neighborhood sits on the original farmland of Iowa's first Territorial Governor, Robert Lucas. His home, Plum Grove, is now a state historic site, open seasonally to the public and operated by the Johnson County Historical Society. Because it was a farm, the land broke up gradually and was developed in small sections at a time over nearly two centuries. This gives a unique texture to the neighborhood. You will learn about the two existing governor's homes, homes of prominent and influential Iowa Citians, Moffitt Homes and more! Present by Judy Nyren, Lucas Farms resident and Moffitt homeowner for 42 years.

This program is part of ICPL's Weber Days, a series of Local History programs and events honoring the memory and work of Iowa City Historian Irving B. Weber.
