ACLU People Power letter writing meeting. We will write letters to our legislators in support of the Let People Vote Iowa project (https://vote.peoplepower.org/IA) which supports allowing online voter registration for all Iowa residents.

The call to action is to convince the Iowa state legislature to expand online voter registration to all Iowa residents. Currently, only certain Iowans — those with Iowa Department of Transportation-issued IDs — can use this convenient voter registration mechanism, which makes it easier for people — such as disabled persons — to register. An estimated 150,000 Iowans who do not have those IDs would benefit from this change.

Legislation was introduced during the 2015 legislative session to expand online voter registration. With support from the Iowa County Auditor’s Association, the bill passed the Iowa Senate. Then, it stalled in the House.
