World Wednesday: Ramadan Moon Mobiles

Details

1:00pm to 2:00pm
Storytime Room

World Wednesdays are the perfect opportunity to learn about and celebrate world cultures! Each week we will learn by doing with a craft, game or activity that explores a different part of the world.

Ramadan, an important time for Muslims (people who practice Islam) will end tomorrow. During Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, people fast, or refrain from eating and drinking while it’s light out. For the hundreds of millions of Muslims around the world who observe Ramadan, the month is a time to focus on their faith and also perform generous acts. We will be making moon and star mobiles, a popular symbol of Ramadan and the Islamic culture because when Islam emerged, travel along the desert trade routes was largely by night, and navigation depended upon the position of the moon and stars.
