World Wednesdays are the perfect opportunity to learn about and celebrate world cultures! Each week we will learn by doing with a craft, game or activity that explores a different part of the world.

Marine Day (海の日) also known as "Ocean Day" or "Sea Day", is a Japanese holiday celebrated on the third Monday in July. The purpose of the holiday is to give thanks to the ocean's bounty and to consider the importance of the ocean to Japan as an island nation. Although this traditional craft is usually made on Children's Day in Japan in May, we are creating Koinobori, or carp-shaped wind socks to celebrate children and marine life! The Japanese consider it to be the most spirited fish -- so full of energy and power that it can fight its way up swift-running streams and cascades.
