Hispanic Heritage Month Film Screening: A Better Life

A Better Life (2011) Directed by Chris Weitz (Twilight: New Moon) and starring Demián Bichir, and José Julián.



Carlos is an undocumented Mexican immigrant who works as a gardener in in LA and is raising his 15 year old son alone. He keeps a low profile, works hard and holds traditional values. His son Luis has grown up in LA, and is tempted by the gang lifestyle, but Carlos will do whatever he can to keep Luis from the gangs and give him the opportunities that he never had.


This film is shown in conjunction with the 14th Annual Iowa Latino Conference, October 11-13 co sponsored by the University of Iowa School of Social Work and the UI Center for Diversity and Enrichment and the Iowa City Public Library.
