LGBTQ 101: The Basics
The purpose of the 3-hour “The Basics” training is to educate human-services staff on the language, needs, and barriers involved when working with sexual and gender minority clients. Grounded in the best practices laid out by the Child Welfare League of America, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, Lambda Legal, and the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, this training allows participants to build a foundation of knowledge about the specific identities of people within the LGBTQ community, the unique needs of this population in terms of social services, and the particular barriers faced by LGBTQ clients. By providing a foundation on which participants can build, human-service agencies who request this training are starting the process of creating safe and supportive environments for their LGBTQ clients.
