IFF 2014: Maureen Freely "The Right to Write"

Maureen Freely, a 2014 Ida Beam Visiting Professor at the University of Iowa International Writing Program, is the current president of English PEN. Freely is an American author, journalist and faculty member at the University of Warwick, Coventry, England. During her presidency, English PEN has been at the forefront of vigorous debates about free speech vs. restrictions on hate speech, surveillance vs. right to privacy, and press and literary censorship, all recently sweeping Europe. Ms. Freely will also touch on how these concerns play out in Turkey, her special area of expertise.
